CLIENT: RED HERRING THEATRE COMPANY, MARINA
COMPANY, 2022-
In September 2022, I began
acting for the Red Herring Theatre Company, based at The Seagull
community theatre in Lowestoft. After an open audition, I
was cast in Conor McPherson’s play The Weir (above left). It was a
challenging first role: only five actors in the cast, on stage for an
hour and a half, with each character delivering a long monologue.
After The Weir’s
successful three-night run in November 2022, I was cast in Antigone
(above right), which again ran for three
performances, in April 2023. In November, I played Jacob Marley in The
Marina Community Theatre Company's production of A Christmas Carol
(left and above middle). The play was the first one for TMCTA, and made £2,000
in profit on only two performances. I also became involved in the
marketing of A Christmas Carol, distributing posters to
businesses throughout Lowestoft, as well as making regular social
media updates in the run up to the first and last nights.
Additionally, I was given a free hand to devise Marley's costume and
make up. Reasoning that he had to be pretty frightening to terrify
Scrooge, I went for white make up, a skull - 'Skully' - a 'familiar
spirit' that Marley talked to, trailing bandages, a blood red scarf
and, lastly, a black overcoat and nail varnish.
