LABEL: SANCTUARY RECORDS, 2001
Archive release of a
concert given by New Wave band The Stranglers in 1980 at London’s
Rainbow Theatre. The band’s guitarist and singer Hugh Cornwell was in
Pentonville prison for drug offences, so the rest of the band were
helped out by stars of the New Wave scene such as Ian Dury, Robert
Smith of The Cure, Richard Jobson from The Skids, Toyah Wilcox and
Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers.
I wrote the sleeve notes
and designed the CD in the style of the band’s 1970s graphics. I also
interviewed the band’s drummer and archivist, Jet Black.
